Rocky Mountain pedaled into the eMTB market a few years ago with their unique proprietary integrated Dyname drive motor on the Altitude Powerplay. In the time sense they’ve further refined the e-bike drive setup onto the Instinct, and now a new Growler Powerplay 27.5+ alloy hardtail is added for trail riding. And the Powerplays are coming to the US as well as Canada.
Rocky Mountain Growler Powerplay 27.5+ alloy hardtail

The new Growler Powerplay Alloy grows the Rocky Mountain eMTB Powerplay family with a new, more affordable performance hardtail. Built for all around trail riding, it gets 130mm travel forks and fat 2.8″ Maxxis Rekon EXO tires to handle any trails (or even bigger 26″+ tires).

Rocky Mountain’s in-house developed, integrated Dyname 3.0 drive system is unique in that it is more compact and mounted lower in the bike, not affecting either chainstay length (or in the case of the Instinct & Altitude, pivot locations.) That gave RM more freedom to design their eMTBs like normal performance bikes without compromising handling. We’ve detailed the Dyname 3.0 system recently, which happens to put out class-leading torque, fast power response, and even faster charging.

The Growler Powerplay combines RM’s FORM alloy frame with the low, Dyname 3.0 250W, 48V drive system and a huge 632Wh lithium-ion battery in the downtube. The latest Powerplay setup has a straighter upper idler pulley layout for reduced drivetrain wear.

The bike also features an updated, more compact & robust version of Rocky’s iWoc TRIO remote to control the drive system.

The new 1x-specific eMTB is available in four sizes, each of which can carry two water bottles. It features a PF92 bottom bracket, a tapered ZS44 headset, easy internal cable routing, internal dropper routing, and light Boost spaced bolt-on thru-axles.
